Mentoring & Befriending Project
Adelaide House are registered & working towards Approved Provider Accreditation through the national Mentoring and Befriending Foundation
A key element of life at Adelaide House is the peer mentoring and befriending service.
Skilled and trusted residents work closely with the staff group and current residents to provide additional support both during their stay at Adelaide and if needed when a resident has moved on into the community. They are able to accompany residents to various appointments.
They are always on hand to listen if residents have a problem and assist them in finding ways to solve those problems. They also help with completing forms for housing, benefits or employment.
The mentors assist with fundraising events and with group programmes delivered by hostel staff and also external agencies.
As part of future development and training mentors will be offered the opportunity to undertake NVQ 2 in Health & Social Care a number of whom have successfully completed this.
Past mentors have also completed their NCFE in Substance Misuse, Alcohol Awareness, Stress Awareness, Infection Control and Reducing Drug Related Deaths. Food Hygiene certification has proved to be another popular course.
